(Nate looks around the office as the manager talks, seeing the mundaneness of it all. When the manager turns around, Nate is gone)
Manager: Mr. Ford? Mr. Ford? Was it something I said?
Matt: Zoe, it's-it's more complicated than you think.
Zoe: But you called the police, right?
Matt: Yeah, but they didn't even really get it when I was explaining it to them. It's very difficult to wrap your head around unless you're a banker.
Zoe: So explain it better. Daddy, it's the right thing to do.
Matt: Honey, can we please just change the subject?
Zoe: Okay. Can I get a cellphone?
Matt: Oh, yoi. I got no good choices here, do I? (looks at the briefcase in the back seat) I've got no good choices.
(Nate stands on the corner looking at the bar across the street for a long moment)
Nate: Ah, screw it.
(He loosens his tie and begins crossing the road)
(the car makes a grinding noise and begins to accelerate)
Matt: I don't know what's going on!
Matt: It's out of control!
Zoe: Dad, look out!
Matt: The brakes!
(the car is out of control, the breaks do not work)
(Nate is halfway across the street when Matt’s car comes around the corner, hitting a parked truck and flipping, flying over Nate’s head and coming to a rest in the middle of the street upside down. The car catches on fire and Nate runs over, looking inside)
Nate: Okay, guys. Hold on. I got you.
(Nate opens the passenger’s door)
Matt: Get her out of here. Now.
Nate: Yeah, okay. I've got her. Give me your hands. (helps Zoe out, picking her up) Move slow. Move slow. Take it easy. (to Thug who has approached the other side of the car) Okay. I got her. Get him.
Thug: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Matt: Help me. What—
(Thug reaches into the back seat and grabs the suitcase, then runs)
Matt: Help! Help me! Help!
(Nate turns around and sees the Thug running away)
Nate (to Thug): Hey! Hey!
(Thug continues to run away as Matt cries for help)
Zoe: My dad? My dad?
Matt: Help me!
Nate: Okay. (puts Zoe down) Hold on. (runs back to the car)
Matt: Help. Help!
(Nate opens the door and
pulls Matt out)
(Nate and Matt move around the car)
Nate (to Zoe): Go! Go!
(the car explodes, throwing everyone from their feet)
Nate: Excuse me, I just wanted to check on...
Leary: Hi, I'm Glenn Leary. I'm Matt's boss at the bank. I'm sorry. This is Lieutenant Bonanno of the State Police.
Bonanno: Mr. Ford. Hell of a thing you did. (to Leary) Now, you call me if you think of anything, all right?
Nate: State Police? Car crash downtown, that's Boston P.D., not State Police.
Bonanno: Well, you're right. It's not.
Leary: Matt called him to set up a meeting. I have no idea why.
Nate: Maybe something at the bank?
Leary: How? There isn't even gonna be a bank after Friday. We work at First Boston Independent. We're going under. At the end of the week, the government's gonna come in, write one last check for all our bad assets, and that's it. Close the doors. And... (takes Nate aside) Matt took it pretty hard. He's drinking. You know what a mess people are when they drink. He's in surgery. I'm gonna go down and check on him. Thanks again. (walks away)
Zoe: Something's wrong with the car.
(Nate walks into Zoe’s Hospital Room)
Zoe (crying): It went real fast, and then the brakes...
Nate: Yeah? Listen, there's a Detective Bonanno out there. I'm gonna go tell him about this, okay?
Zoe (grabs him): No, wait! Something's wrong with the car.
Nate: Okay, okay. (sits down beside her) All right. You should get some sleep. Yeah? Yeah.
(Zoe gradually falls asleep holding Nate’s hand)
(lobby is teaming with people when Nate walks in. A sign shows that Sophie is starring in The Sound of Music. He sees Parker at the ticket counter)
Parker: Picking up for one.
Ticket Agent: Last name?
Ticket Agent: First name?
Parker: No. Just one name.
Ticket Agent: Great. I hope you enjoy it.
(Parker turns to see Nate across the room and smiles)
(Parker looks to her right to see Hardison. The sound of Eliot’s laughter from across the lobby draws Hardison’s attention)
Eliot (to women): All right. After the show, then. I'll see you.
(Eliot turns and sees the others. The all meet in the center of the lobby)
Eliot: So, how have you...
Nate: Good. Good. Great. You?
Eliot: Fantastic. Six months of traveling. Did a couple of big jobs.
Hardison: eah. Me, too. Great off time. Well, I bought an oxygen tank. Cool, nice.
Parker: Yeah, super. I've been really super, too.
Nate: Yeah, she didn't tell me that you guys would...
(Sophie joins them, papers in her neckline and curlers in her hair)
Sophie: Oh, you all made it.
Hardison: I didn't know you could sing.
Sophie: You know. Not as well as I act, but, yeah.
(Sophie goes to kiss Nate’s cheek but he pulls back)
Nate: I don't want to wrinkle your...
(Sophie feels the curlers in her hair and pulls them out)
Sophie: We're gonna meet up afterwards.
Nate: Uh, ah…
Eliot: Well, I got…
(Sophie ignores them and walks away, warming up her voice. The others look at each other awkwardly)
Hardison: Yeah, you know, I'm sure the reviews will be...
(Sophie hands Hardison her phone)
Hardison: …on the news website already.
Parker (grabs the phone): Really? Wow. "Never before has a production of 'The Sound Of Music' made me root for the Nazis."
Eliot: But you quit drinking?
Eliot: You quit drinking?
Nate: Sure did.
Eliot: You quit drinking? How do you know about this place, then?
Nate: I rent a condo upstairs.
Eliot: You rent a condo above a bar?
Nate: That's right.
Eliot: Well, that's very... Catholic.
Parker: The costumes were really great.
Sophie: No. No, no, no. Stop it. There is nothing you can say that's gonna make me feel better.
Parker: I know what could make you feel better. We should steal something.
Nate: No, no.
Sophie: Yes! We could do it together.
Eliot: I like this. Get right back up on the bike.
Parker: Bike of crime.
Nate: Didn't you earlier tell me how great your new lives were?
Parker: Yeah, well, I stole the Hope Diamond.
Parker: And then I put it back. Yeah, 'cause I was bored. Didn't care.
Hardison: I spent three days hacking the white house e-mail. No buzz.
Hardison: But we are doing some pretty hinky stuff in Pakistan. Hinky.
Sophie: Look, I'm miserable. They're miserable. (to Eliot) Okay, what have you been doing the last six months?
Eliot: I was in Pakistan.
Hardison: You see what you did? You took the world's best criminals, hitter, hacker, grifter, thief, you took us, and you broke us.
Nate: No, no. I-I, what I did, I taught you how to help people. That's all.
Eliot: This is the problem, with being the good guy. It gets under your skin.
Sophie: Look, Nate. You have to have some poor, little lost soul somewhere who needs a little extra-legal aid.
Nate: Look, we all agreed that we'd just move on.
Sophie: Yeah, but we're... We're thieves.
Nate: Not me. Look, it was great. It was fun. It was wonderful while it lasted, but I was drunk most of the time, to be honest with you. And I… A little crazy.
Eliot: Yeah, but you were good.
Parker: You were the best.
Hardison: We were the best.
Nate: Listen, really, I owe all of you. And I'm very proud of what we did. I-I really am. But I got my life back, and I intend to keep it that way. And I am not a thief. (stands up) It was great to see all of you. Good night. (leaves)
Parker: You didn't even get a chance to tell him.
Sophie: I know.
Eliot: Tell him what?
(Nate enters the dim room and looks around. Behind him, the Thug opens the door and comes at him with a knife. Nate sees the reflection in a pot lid and turns to block the blow. Sophie comes in behind the Thug)
Sophie: Oi! Does your mother sew? (headbutts Thug) Stitch that.
(Thug runs out of the condo. Nate runs out after him, but Thug gets away. As he reenters the condo, Sophie hits him in the head with a cookie sheet and Nate falls to the floor)
Sophie: Ah! Bugger.
(the next morning, Nate wakes up on the couch to the sound of Parker eating. Parker is wearing a Nun’s habit, smiles and moves away. Sophie comes downstairs wearing Nate’s shirt)
Nate: That's my shirt.
Sophie: Yeah. I stayed the night to make sure you were okay. You what? But don't worry. I didn't look under your bed. I know that's where guys keep weird, kinky stuff.
Nate: There's nothing under my bed.
Parker (opens cupboard): This is all coffee.
Nate: Get out of there! (sees Hardison and Eliot at the table) What are you guys doing? (gets up) Come on, get out of here. Get all this stuff out of here. You're planning something. I know it. Come on. Get out of my house.
Sophie: Someone tried to kill you last night.
Eliot: What do you want us to do, man? You want us to just blow town and let you figure it out?
Nate: Yes, actually. That's exactly what I want you to do.
Sophie: We found the phone number of the hospital in your pocket, and we know what you did. We know you saved that guy's life and that little girl. And we're all really, really proud of you.
Hardison: Look, nobody else is gonna help that guy and his little girl. Okay, that's what we do. We help people. By the way, I compared Sophie's description of your attacker to the accident footage from the security camera.
(Hardison pushes a few buttons on the laptop and zooms in on the Thug’s face to begin a facial recognition search through various cameras in the area)
Hardison: Do you realize, on average, people are caught on security cameras 13 times a day? ATM cameras, traffic cameras. It's crazy, man, but we can track him. We can. Well, I lost him in this.
Eliot: Yeah, well, I found this empty briefcase belonging to a Matt Kerrigan at that intersection.
Hardison: It's Boston Commonwealth Bank, right?
Nate: No, First Independent Boston. That's where Kerrigan works. Come on.
Eliot (looking at monitor): Who's this guy?
Nate: You don't know, do you? That's Kerrigan's boss, that guy. Leary. Whatever.
Eliot: All right, who's the other guy?
Hardison: It's not clear enough for facial recognition.
Eliot: Yeah, well, the problem is, these two cats went down to the safety deposit boxes.
Parker: Which is the only room in every bank, with absolutely no cameras.
Hardison: Which means we up, baby. (puts on a priest’s collar) They tried to kill Kerrigan for what was in the briefcase. We're gonna steal it back.
Eliot (laughs): She was dressed that way 'cause she's doing a con.
Nate: What, you thought she was dressed like a nun for no reason?
Eliot: It's Parker.
Nate: Oh, fair enough. Okay, I want you out of my house. Out. I'm getting cleaned up. I'm going upstairs. I want all this stuff out of here. I want you guys out of here. I'm not a part of this.
Nate: Not a part of this. This is you guys.
Sophie: We got it.
Nate: If you want to do this thing, you're on your own.
(Nate walks away)
Sophie (to Eliot): So, you going?
Eliot: I'm not going anywhere. The man has 700 sports channels.
Sophie: You want to see what he's got under his bed?
Eliot: N-no, I do not.
(the Bank Manager leads Parker and Hardison down into the vault)
Bank Manager: I personally promise your missionary money will be absolutely safe here in our vault.
Hardison: I thank you.
Bank Manager (unlocks a safe deposit box): You keep your key. The master remains upstairs at all times.
Hardison: Oh, bless you, bless you, sweets. Bless you. You are the twinkle in that song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Thank you much.
(Parker lifts her skirt and takes lock picking tools from a strap on her thigh)
Hardison: Oh, that is wrong.
Parker: Which box is Glenn Leary's?
Hardison: 5076, but you know you're gonna need the master key.
(Parker opens her Bible to reveal a lock duplication kit with a depression in the plastic of the master key)
(Parker takes the key from the Bank Manager’s pocket as Hardison talks, pressing the key into the form before replacing it into the Bank Manager’s pocket)
Hardison: And the children... The children thank you. They will send you a card just as soon as we buy them tiny pencils. And teach them how to spell. It's a two-step process, you see.
Parker: Superglue and a heat-activated polymer to set it. Seven seconds, instant plastic key. (hands Hardison the Bible) Shake it.
Parker: Shake the bible.
Hardison: This is even more wrong.
(Hardison: takes the Bible and begins shaking it while Parker picks box 5076)
Hardison: I did look for you. For six months.
Parker: Done. The key. Done.
(Hardison opens the kit and pulls out the finished master key, using it on the box Parker is picking)
Parker: I think people are like locks. Really complicated and frustrating. But you can't force them. You have to take time and be fiddly.
Parker: You learn to be patient, and just wait until you hear the...
(the lock opens and the door swings wide)
Parker: We could open every box in here with that key.
Parker: We could steal everything. Clean them out.
Parker: I'm just saying.
Hardison: I'm just saying.
(they pull the box out and take out its contents)
(Nate walks downstairs in his condo)
Nate: All right, Zoe, well, that's, you know, it'll be better once you get it out of the cast. Yeah. How's your dad? Oh. Okay, I'll tell you what. I'm gonna come by later and check on you. Yeah. Take care.
(Hardison is sitting on the couch going through some paperwork and working on a laptop. Several boards have been set up with information about the case)
Nate: Now, this is not "gone." This is "more."
Hardison: Yeah, I, uh, I scanned the documents in Leary's box, but I wanted to print out a few pages.
Nate: I asked—I asked Eliot to get rid of this stuff. Now there's more stuff.
Hardison: Did you? Oh, we-we crossed, but didn't see each other. He didn't tell me.
Nate: Oh, that's how you're gonna play this?
Hardison: Oh, man. Look... (stands up and sniffs)
Hardison: Is that... What is that aroma? That's that apple shampoo that's open.
Nate: You've been up in my shower, rummaging around?
Hardison: Man's in a strange bathroom, he's got a lot of time to kill... Nate, Nate, Nate. Look. Business incorporated, 1978.
Nate: Guess what. Don't care.
Hardison: Look, look. This is what Kerrigan found. The deeds from '75 to '77. 20 businesses all started in the late '70s. Now, here's where it gets weird. All the financials for, what, 30 years, squeaky clean. Taxes paid, employees withholding often and early. Until the last six months. That's when they took out crazy-bad business loans, refinanced mortgages with high interest rates. I'm talking big loans, too. Add it up, it's a couple million.
Nate: Brandon O'Hare.
Hardison: I'll run him through the database.
Nate: Grew up in the same neighborhood. The O'Hares are mobbed up. These are all mob businesses you're talking about here.
Nate: Where's Eliot?
(Eliot is going through boxes when his phone rings. He answers)
Eliot: Yeah, Hardison. This is the third place I checked. It's all the same. What do you mean mob?
(three men approach, one of them the Thug, who has his nose bandaged and is carrying a baseball bat)
Eliot: Oh, that mob. (hangs up)
Thug: Hey, that's private property.
Thug: Yeah, I'm gonna teach you (pushes Eliot back with the bat) how to respect-- (pushes Eliot again)
Thug: --private property.
(Eliot hits Thug in the solar plexus)
Eliot: What did I tell you?
(Eliot pushes the Thug behind him and takes on the other two men. One picks up a crow bar and the other a piece of wood. Eliot kicks the Thug in the face and takes his baseball bat)
Thug: Ow! God! Not the nose! Oh!
(Eliot twirls the bat)
Eliot: Come on.
(Eliot takes both men out relatively easily)
Thug: He kicked my nose!
Eliot: Oh, sorry.
(Nate opens the refrigerator to find it full of Hardison’s orange soda)
(Nate turns to see the island covered in food and dishes)
Nate: You know, guys, there is a dishwasher here.
Eliot: You're out of ice. (to the others) This is all the stuff I found at the warehouse in the boxes.
Hardison: Check it out: A 1981 calendar Hall and Oates. The first two months are all Hall and no Oates. That's cold, man.
Sophie: Judging by this fringing and... What? Those shoulder pads, this stuff hasn't left that warehouse since the 1980s.
Parker: I feel like a robot.
Sophie: Wait, so if these are supposed to be just fake businesses, how come their financials are so squeaky clean?
Nate: Because they're fake businesses. I mean, come on, it's right there. I mean, I'm just saying.
(they all look at each other)
Nate: What? Sophie, how do you catch mob guys?
Sophie: Ah, two glasses of Chianti and a story about my grandma in Sicily.
Nate: How does the government catch mob guys?
Hardison: Ah, that's how they got Capone.
Sophie: It's how they get everybody. Yeah, I mean, they never get you for the crime. They always get you for the taxes. It's not really fair.
Nate: So, 30 years ago, the O'Hares got very smart. You see, they set up all these shell companies. Fake sales, receipts. They launder all their money through them.
Hardison: Everybody in the family gets a "salary." Yeah, they pay withholding, payroll taxes, pension. It's all old school.
Eliot: That's why the businesses are clean. They're dirty from the inside.
Nate: Well, yeah. I mean, if you have a body in the trunk of your car, you're gonna drive under the speed limit, aren't you?
Parker: You know, when you're sober, your metaphors get creepier.
Hardison: But, wait, wait, that still doesn't explain the last six months of running up bad loans.
Sophie: All from a bank that's about to close.
Hardison: Close? No, not close. Get bailed out. Look, we've got a banker in the pocket of the mob. The mob takes out bad loans, cleans out the bank knowing three days from now, the government's gonna come along and then, you know, bail the bank out. I mean, it's perfect. You know, I don't even think it's illegal. I mean, if we were gonna do this, this job—
Sophie: Just this one job.
Nate: Yes, just this one.
Nate: I mean, the con that you'd want to do...
Nate: ...hypothetically, you know, is, the turnabout, of course.
Sophie: Oh, that is a good one.
Eliot: You know, it takes… five people to do the turnabout.
Sophie: That's true.
Sophie: There's just the four of us.
Parker: Need one more person.
Nate: We've got to scare the banker into turning against the mob. All right. All right, we'll do this job. Just this one.

Hardison: If you really want.
Sophie: If you insist.
Sophie: We're on board.
Nate: Hardison, you and Parker, you're gonna be on the badge. Eliot, sheepdog. Sophie—
Sophie: Ice queen.
Nate: And I'm the bagman. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am gonna go call a professional killer who tried to murder me, and arrange to meet him in an isolated location. (walks away) Well played.
Sophie: See that? He did miss us.
(Leary walks down the street when Parker and Hardison walk up on either side of him)
Hardison: Mr. Leary, I'm Detective Costello, with the Massachusetts State Police. This is Detective Costigan. I believe you met with our chief, Lieutenant Bonanno.
Leary: Yeah. How can I help you?
Parker: We're investigating your colleague Matt Kerrigan's (air quotes) "car accident."
Leary: So you don't think it was an accident?
Hardison: Of course not. She did the finger thing. You got that. Everybody gets that.
Parker: Did I do it right?
Hardison: No. No. This guy just... (pulls picture from his pocket)
(Eliot walks behind Parker and Hardison, pausing to look at Leary intently)
Hardison: Do you recognize this man?
Leary: No, listen, I don't know what kind of stuff Matt was getting into, I really--
Hardison: You sure? Never went to the movies?
Leary: I don't really know.
Hardison: Never went shopping together?
(Eliot walks down the side of the building and plants squibs along the wall)
Leary: No, I didn't...
Hardison: Never went to your house. Never did parties. Spend time with your family, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah?
Leary: No, didn't know him that well.
Hardison: You sure? Went to the pool, played a little pool, knocking each other's balls around?
Leary: Not really, no.
Hardison: All right, okay, you know what, Mr. Leary, if you think of anything, (gives him business card) you give us a call. We've got our eyes on you.
Leary: All right, thanks. (walks away)
Parker: I did it right, didn't I?
Hardison: It was perfect.
Parker: I knew I did it right.
Hardison: It was beautiful execution. Absolutely.
Parker: Just like you taught me. I did it.
Hardison: Yeah. Yeah, you did it. I like it. Yeah.
(Parker and Hardison join Eliot who has finished placing his last squib)
Eliot: Hey, this detonator - If I'm around the corner, is it still gonna be in range?
Hardison: Should be. I haven't worked out all the kinks yet. Sometimes the things just go off.
Eliot: Whoa, whoa, wait. Hey. I thought you said this thing was safe.
Hardison: Mostly. Mostly safe. I was very specific. Sometimes the frequencies get messed up.
Eliot: What frequencies, man? Huh? I got these things in my pants.
Hardison: Like, you know, a garage-door opener, a car alarm.
(a car alarm chirps then goes off, making Eliot jump. He moves away angrily)
Parker: What are the odds that Eliot's crotch will actually explode?
Eliot: Damn it, Hardison! (stalks off)
Hardison (dials phone): Sophie. Leary's tipped, and the street's are mined. How's Nate doing?
(Thug is working over Nate with the help of his men)
O’Hare (on phone): Let me call you back. I've got to go.
(O’Hare hangs up as Thug forces Nate into a chair)
O’Hare: Why were you at the accident?
Nate: I was following Kerrigan. I thought he was one of your guys.
O’Hare: You working for the cops?
Nate: Sure, O'Hare, I'm working for the cops. That's why I called you and came down here alone, because I'm the smartest under-cover cop in the world. Come on.
O’Hare: You're Jimmy Ford's kid, Nathan. Thought you were gonna become a priest.
Nate: Yeah, it didn't work out.
O’Hare: I got news for you. Doesn't look like this is gonna work out for you, either. Go ahead. Entertain me.
Nate: Yeah, so, 30 years ago, your father set up a bunch of fake businesses to launder your money. And you ran them through a bank you guys control. How am I doing?
O’Hare: You're talking yourself into Boston harbor.
Nate: Yeah, then your bank got in a little trouble. A big federal bailout comes along. You figured out how to get a slice of the bailout.
O’Hare: Yeah, we're done here.
(the men converge on Nate but break off when they hear Sophie’s voice)
Sophie: You take out millions of dollars in bad loans, you get your pet banker Leary to write you off as toxic assets just as the banks go under. Government eats the loans. You don't have to shell out a single penny. Nice. I like it a lot. (shows passport) Annie Kroy.
O’Hare (grabs passport): Name's familiar.
Sophie: My family does business in North London with Terry Adams, and a couple of other organizations. We handle the money.
Nate (getting up): Yeah, see, what they do is they clean the money.
(the men grab Nate and force him back into the chair)
Sophie: Oi! I wasn't talking to you.
Nate: Yeah, all right.
Sophie: But since the new European banking laws, you know this, what are they calling it? The credit crunch. Yeah. Shifting money on either side of the channel, it's getting a bit tricky. We hired him to find us alternatives here in the states and... he found you. (to Thug) Hello, gorgeous. I was just coming up to talk to him about it the other night when your man here, what would you say? We bumped heads.
O’Hare: So, what's your offer?
Sophie: We want in. We'll buy 30% of your businesses at a five-point premium, assume their debts. You trade us clean U.S. Government money for our… more soiled funds.
O’Hare: The bailout goes down in three days.
Sophie: All right then. Good faith payment, tomorrow, cash, 250 grand, show we're serious.
O’Hare: I'm gonna have to talk to some people.
Sophie: Fine. It's up to you if you want to tell them about the 250.
(Eliot is parked outside of the bank when Leary comes out, looking at files. Eliot hits a remote and the sound of gunfire fills the street as the squibs go off. People scream and Leary dives for cover. Eliot laughs and closes his window. Hiding behind a car, Leary pulls out his phone and dials)
Hardison (on voicemail): Leave a message after the beep.
Leary: Detective Costello. Somebody just shot at me. We have to talk, please!
(Nate is standing with Zoe, who is playing with a pendant, in Matt’s hospital room)
Zoe: Nervous habit.
Nate: What is that?
Zoe: Saint Brigid. My mother's name. Dad got it for me after she died.
Nate: Mm-hmm. So, how are you doing?
Zoe: They say the accident's his fault.
Nate: No. No, now listen. Your dad, he found some papers at work, and he was trying to figure out what they meant, and he got a little bit too close to something…
Zoe: No, but it's not his fault. It was my fault.
Nate: No, no, it wasn't your--
Zoe: No, he said something was bothering him at work. I told him to call the police, and now, now they... "There are wolves in the world." That's what dad says. "Be careful, Zoe. There are wolves in the world."
Nate: He was not wrong.
(Zoe walks over to her father and touches his hair)
Zoe: So the world's just like this, huh? Bad people do bad things and they always get away with it. Nobody stops them.
Hardison (opens case): New earbuds. Better range, better fits. All you'll have to do is whisper, and we'll all hear it.
(everyone puts the earbuds in)
Nate: Okay, now, if this works, our friend Mr. Leary, he goes to the State Police, he runs, he spills his guts. Eliot, make sure he gets there.
Eliot: I'm on it. (leaves)
Nate: Okay. And O'Hare's money for the frame-up?
(Parker looks at a briefcase filled with money)
Nate: And this money came from...
Parker: Oh, yeah.
Nate: Perfect. Okay, let's reel them in.
(Nate pulls a phone and dials)
Nate: Yeah, O'Hare?
O’Hare: Ford, when are you gonna get here?
(Hardison pulls a phone and dials)
(Leary’s phone rings. He looks at it, then answers)
Leary: Oh, Detective, thank God. Listen, somebody tried to kill me yesterday.
Nate: Yeah, I'll be there pretty soon. But listen, Mrs. Kroy, she wants to talk to your banker and make sure the details are—
Nate: --right, and…
O’Hare: That's not gonna happen.
Hardison: Come in and talk to us, Mr. Leary.
Hardison: We can protect you, but only if you tell us everything.
Leary: I can't. I can't.
Leary: Do you know who's doing this to me?
Hardison: No, but I have to warn you. They're gonna try again. And next time, they'll be smarter.
Nate: You know, she can be a real hard-ass. I mean, you saw that the other night.
O’Hare: Yeah, she got a hard head. Now, that ass... (laughs)
(Nate laughs weakly)
Hardison: Next time, you'll get a phone call from somebody you know. They'll ask to meet you somewhere isolated…
Hardison: …and that's the hit.
Leary: Somebody I know?
Nate: And make sure the banker's there.
O’Hare: I'll take care of it. Just bring the money.
Nate: All right.
(Nate hangs up his phone)
Hardison: When you get that call, come to my office. You ask for Lieutenant Bonanno. You tell him everything.
Hardison: That's the only way I can keep you alive.
Leary: But I...
(the call disconnects)
(O’Hare makes a call)
(phone rings, Leary answers)
O’Hare: Leary, get down to the warehouse.
O’Hare: I need to meet you now.
(Leary hangs up and looks at his phone)
(Nate walks in with the briefcase and sets it on a crate)
O’Hare: Where's your boss?
(Nate opens the case to reveal the money inside)
Nate: She's on her way. I just wanted to make sure it was just us, no cops. Here you go.
(Nate walks away from the case while O’Hare moves in to take a look)
Nate (on comm): Eliot, is Leary with the cops? We don't have a lot of room for error.
(Eliot is hiding behind some discarded wood, watching Leary walk toward the warehouse)
Eliot: There's a problem. Leary drove down to the waterfront. Dumped his car. He's heading right for you.
Nate: He was supposed to go to the cops.
Eliot: Well, then, I don't know what he's doing.
(O’Hare is looking at the money when Leary walks in)
Leary: O'Hare. O'Hare!
(O’Hare closes the briefcase and turns around)
Leary: What the hell are you thinking?
O’Hare: The deal, the Brits, they wanted to meet.
Leary: Somebody just took a shot at me. For all we know, it was the Brits. And then you call me on my cell phone when we're crawling with cops?
Nate: Okay, guys, it's not O'Hare.
Nate: Well, no.
Nate: O'Hare is not the boss is what I'm saying.
Sophie: No. This whole con was built around O'Hare.
Parker: Oooh, they're probably gonna shoot Nate in the face.
Nate: Parker, I can hear you.
Parker: Sorry. Forgot about the...
Sophie: This is not good.
Nate: All right. Well, listen. We're gonna have to make this one up as we go.
Leary: State cops, they questioned me about Kerrigan. I tried to get them to talk, but nothing. Are you sure this deal isn't a setup?
Nate (turns and heads back to them): Ah, yes.
Leary: You? Him? This is the guy making the offer? He was at the crash.
Nate: Yeah, look, look. I'm just the middleman here. I mean--
Leary: I don't care why you're here. This stinks. I say put him in the harbor.
O’Hare: This is a good deal.
Leary: You don't decide what deals we take. And I say if you want your payoff, you put him down now.
Nate: A good faith payment right here, huh? (opens briefcase) Um, you know, sorry. We should have contacted you first, but this was supposed to go to the man in charge, so...
Leary: You thought these guys came up with that bailout plan?
Nate: Yeah, yeah. Well, sure.
Leary: Oh, come on. These guys aren't in charge. I'm in charge.
Nate: These guys have been running this town for 30 years, I mean—
Leary: Oh, come on. These guys are the past. What do you think these guys clear in a year? Stealing cigarettes, selling drugs, a couple hundred thousand, all in?
(Eliot is hiding behind some crates and a bunch of mobsters come up behind him)
Leary: And for that, the government hunts them down like dogs. People like me, we took billions from the banks. Billions. And what did the government do when they finally caught us? They wrote us a giant check and begged us to make it all better.
(mobsters drag Eliot into the area, struggling)
Eliot: All right. All right!
(mobsters put Eliot down in a chair)
Leary: Hey, I know this guy. He was there when the cops questioned me.
(Nate walks over and begins to search Eliot)
Eliot (softly): You better know what you're doing.
Nate (standing): Hey, he's got a State Trooper badge.
Leary: Son of a... That's it. Kill him.
(O’Hare pulls his gun and looks at Nate)
Nate: Oh, ah…
O’Hare: You want him dead, (pushes the gun at Leary) you kill him. I fixed Kerrigan's brakes. I'm not killing a cop.
Leary: You screwed up Kerrigan.
Nate: Yeah, no. He's right. You're right. He's, w-w-well, w-we're...
(a gunshot rings out and Eliot jerks forward in shock, looking down at his chest. Two more gunshots ring out and Eliot falls from the chair to the floor. Sophie stands at the other end of the group of people, holding a smoking gun pointed at Eliot)
Sophie: Has he got a wire? Well, come on, Ford. Get with it, check him for a wire.
Nate: Yes, right on it, ah… (walks over to Eliot)
O’Hare: This isn't how we do it in Boston.
Sophie: Really? It's exactly how we do it in London. Except we usually use a razor blade.
(Nate searches the body)
Nate: No wire. But he has a cell phone, though.
Leary: Give it to me. Ah, nothing on speed dial.
Sophie: Hit redial. See who he called.
Leary: Say, that's good.
Sophie: Leary, right? Annie Kroy. Nice little number with the banks there. It's a shame the rest of your operation's a bit ballsed-up.
(Leary hits redial and O’Hare’s phone begins to ring)
Leary: O'Hare? Why was a cop's last phone call to you?
(Nate dial’s O’Hare in his condo)
(In the warehouse, Nate bends over Eliot and pulls his phone from his pocket, planting it on the body and checking the last number dialed)
Nate: But he has a cell phone, though.
O’Hare: This is a setup.
Leary: How is it a setup? She shot the cop.
Sophie: Yeah, and he's the one who dialed the phone.
Leary: You didn't want us to shoot him either, did you? Why? Did you know him? (pushes O’Hare)
O’Hare: It wasn't like that! (backs away) Come on! Y-y-you know I was in this thing right from the beginning. Why w-would I be involved? (turns and runs)
Leary: Go! Go!
(men follow O’Hare out of the warehouse)
(O’Hare leaves the warehouse and Hardison pulls up in an SUV)
Hardison: Get in if you want to live!
Thug: There he is! Get him!
(Parker opens the back door and O’Hare gets in. Hardison speeds away)
Thug: Hey! Hey! (shoots at SUV) Get him! (more men shoot at SUV) Get the car!
(Hardison drives to another part of the waterfront and stops)
O’Hare: What are you doing? They’re-they're gonna be right behind us.
Hardison: Then you best talk fast. State Police.
Parker: What happened to our man?
O’Hare: I didn't kill him. They did.
Parker (checks her phone): Tactical's moving in now.
Hardison: So in about one minute your friends are gonna have swat teams, smoke bombs, helicopters, and lasers all up in there, which means you got about 30 seconds to cut a deal, O'Hare. That is who you are, right? Brandon O'Hare?
O’Hare: Oh, look. I'll give you Leary. All right? He organized the bank fraud, and he contracted the Kerrigan hit. I was an accessory after the fact.
Hardison: Ah, good enough.
Parker uses a taser on O’Hare and Hardison pulls up a recorder)
O’Hare (on recorder): He organized the bank fraud, and he contracted the Kerrigan hit.
(Parker uses duct tape on O’Hare)
Leary (returning): Those were the state cops who questioned me.
Sophie: Well, have they got any evidence?
Leary: No, no. Nothing real. Just O'Hare's word against mine.
Sophie: And no documents?
Leary: No. No, no. I-I have those. But Kerrigan saw them.
Nate: And there's just one problem. We're screwed if he wakes up.
Leary: He won't. (walks to briefcase and picks up gun) Kerrigan's the last loose end. I'll take care of him myself.
Nate: Hey, hey, whoa, whoa, wait. What about him? (motions toward Eliot)
Leary: Him? Hey, I never touched him. Your fingerprints are all over him. I'll clean up my mess, you clean up yours.
(Leary closes the briefcase and leaves)
Nate: So, how did you do it?
Eliot (gets up): Detonator, (holds up remote, reaches into his shirt and pulls out ketchup wrapper) ketchup.
Nate: Ah, the classics.
Sophie: Oh, I love a good death scene!
Announcement: Dr. Lawrence to Pediatrics.
(Leary gets off the elevator with the briefcase in his hand. He pulls a gun and makes his way down the hall to Matt’s room, where he jerks aside the curtain to find Bonanno sitting on the bed, an officer standing behind him)
Bonanno: Mr. Leary.
(another officer enters the room as Leary tries to hide the gun)
Bonanno: You remember me, don't you? Lieutenant Patrick Bonanno, Organized Crime Division.
Leary: Yeah. Of course I do.
Bonanno: What's in the briefcase?
Leary: In...? Oh, I can explain that.
(Bonanno takes the briefcase and opens it, revealing the money inside. He whistles)
Bonanno: You know, I think I can explain this, too. O'Hare's been talking.
Bonanno: Yeah. I just found him duct-taped to the wheel of my car with a taped confession in his front pocket. He's being very cooperative. So, what? You find out O'Hare flipped, and you went and robbed your own bank for getaway money?
Bonanno: Oh, yeah. Somebody cleared out several safe deposit boxes at your bank.
Parker: We could open every box in here with that key.
(Parker and Hardison clear out all the cash from the safe deposit boxes. Parker smells the money, and kisses it)
Bonanno: Oh, what's this? (looks at the files in the briefcase) I'm gonna take a closer look at these, too. You know, maybe they can explain why you tried to kill Mr. Kerrigan.
Leary: Hey! No, I had nothing to do with that car crash!
I was nowhere near there.
Bonanno: Uh-huh. Well, why don't you just explain one thing to me, then. What are you doing with Kerrigan's stolen briefcase?
(turns the briefcase to show Matt’s initials
Thug: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
(Thug reaches into the back seat of the burning car and grabs the briefcase)
Eliot: Well, I found this empty briefcase belonging to Matt Kerrigan (opens the briefcase to show Matt’s initials) at that intersection.
(one of the officers puts a set of handcuffs on Leary)
Leary: I was tricked. I was tricked. It wasn't me, you understand?
Bonanno: Somebody tricked you into bringing a briefcase full of evidence of your own crimes straight to the police? Come on, Mr. Leary. Nobody's that smart. Get him out of here.
(Nate hands Matt a check)
Matt: I can't take this from you.
Nate: Well, you know, it's not from us.
Sophie: The IRS pays a percentage for all the tax frauds reported. All those mob businesses, 30 years of back taxes. You found them.
Matt: Thank you. I can never thank you enough.
(Matt and Zoe look at each other and turn to go. Matt continues to the door but Zoe hesitates and turns around, walking back to give Nate a hug)
Zoe: Thank you. There are wolves in the world. But sometimes they're the good guys, I guess.
(Zoe takes Nate’s hand and presses her St Brigid’s medal into it before walking away)
Sophie: Still your last job?
Nate: Well, maybe…
Nate: I mean, you know, until I find a job I like enough, you know, to stay out of the bars.
Hardison: Idle hands are the devil's workshop.
Nate: And then I'm out. I'm done.
Eliot: Yeah. 'Cause you're not a thief.
(Eliot, Parker and Hardison walk away. Sophie’s phone rings)
Nate: Hey, let's go get some dinner.
Sophie: Oh, um, yeah, I-I can't. I-I got to go meet someone.
Nate: Ah, bring them along.
Sophie: Ah, boyfriend.
Sophie: He's really...
Nate: Yeah, I get it.
Sophie: Y-you'll meet him. But...
Nate: Go, go.
Sophie: See ya.
(Nate watches Sophie leave then walks over to the bar)
Nate: Give me an Irish, neat.
(the bartender pours a drink. Nate picks it up and smells it deeply before putting it back on the bar. He puts a bill across the top of the glass and walks away)
(Nate enters the condo to find that Hardison has installed five of six large monitors on the wall and is working on the last one)
Nate: Whoa, whoa. What are you doing there?
Hardison: I'm running this cat 5 cable to the--
Nate: Oh, no, no, no, no. You don't understand. No, I don't want to have these monitors in my apartment. No.
(Parker opens the door and walks in carrying a large painting)
Parker: Coming through!
Nate: No, these must go. What? No! Parker, no! Not that paint--I don't ever want to see that painting.
Parker: "Hi, I'm old Nate, and I live here, too."
Nate: You can't just break in here and start hanging--
Hardison: Oh, yeah, yeah. For repairs or renovation, your landlord has full access to your dwelling. It's in the lease.
Nate: What are you doing reading my lease?
Hardison: I bought the building.
Nate: You bought the... You're my landlord?
Hardison: Yeah. (holds his hand out for a fistbump) Yeah.
(Nate looks away, then hears the sound of a chain saw. He turns to see the end of a chain saw come through the wall)
Nate: No, no! No! No!
(Part of the wall falls to reveal Eliot holding the chainsaw and grinning. Nate coughs and both Parker and Hardison put their arms around him)
