2x07 The Two Live Crew Job

[McRory’s Bar]

Mr. Mercer: My sister and I began the reclamation project 40 years ago. We recover art looted from Nazi-Occupied countries during the shoah.

Ms. Mercer: There is one piece in particular that we have been trying to recover for some time. (places photo on the table)

Mr. Mercer: It's a Gustav Klimt.

Sophie: I love the symbolists.

Mr. Mercer: It belonged to my father. He smuggled it out just before... The painting made it out of Europe. He did not. Mr. Ford, I have searched my entire life for that painting.

Ms. Mercer: Now we know it is here in Boston.

Sophie: Oh, well, if it's on display, then you can make a claim with the museum If you think you have provenance.

Mr. Mercer: It's on display…

Nate: …but not in a museum.

(Mr. Mercer places an open magazine on the table, showing a man standing next to the painting in an office)

Mr. Mercer: Mr. North bought the painting on the black market knowing full well its history.

Sophie: He's got it hanging up in his office.

Nate: Yeah.

Ms. Mercer: We have tried every legal avenue, but he even bribed a judge to dismiss the case.

Nate: North owns the largest software company in the state. He has unlimited money and twice as many lawyers.

Mr. Mercer: Can you help us?

(Nate and Sophie exchange a look)

Sophie: It's what we do.

[Montgraft & Associates]

(Parker, Eliot and Hardison dressed as police walk through the office, ignoring the receptionist)

Receptionist: Montgraft & Associates. One moment. Can I help you?

Hardison: Speak to the boss. (follows the others)

Nate: Yeah, uh, detective, uh, Marlowe. This is Detective Archer.

Receptionist: Is there a problem?

Nate: Yeah, we have a, uh, warrant here to, uh, search your, uh, premises.

Sophie: Your boss is a wanted man, young lady.

[Hallway]

(Parker, Eliot and Hardison walk by as a man comes out of the elevator)

Starke (on comm): Close it up. I think something's going on.

[Hallway]

Parker: I don't like this going through the wrong office. It feels like cheating.

Hardison: North is one of those guys who has the latest everything, including security. His office is one big mousetrap.

Parker: What, so instead we don't even try? That's weak.

(Eliot kicks down a door to an unused office)

Hardison: This is it. The Klimt is behind the wall right here.

(Hardison knocks on the wall and begins taking measurements while Eliot and Hardison bend to take items from a duffle bag)

[Montgraft & Associates]

Receptionist: Mr. Montgraft is in New York on business.

Nate: He probably skipped town.

Sophie: Halfway to Canada by now.

Receptionist: No, he's supposed to be back tomorrow.

Nate: Yeah, well, no, he's not coming back. And, uh, you better hope and pray he doesn't come back.

Sophie: You're just his type.

Nate: Oh, yeah.

Receptionist: What do you mean, "his type"?

Nate: Well...

[Office]

(Hardison writing on the wall while Eliot fiddles with some tools)

Parker: It can't be that hard.

Hardison: The man has a PDX-500 rotating encryption system. Rotating. Do you even know what that is?

[North Software Applications]

Hardison (voice over): Some other crew might be crazy enough to tackle that system head-on, but it's an impossible hack.

(Mikel walks in delivering food)

Hardison: They would have to tap the network directly from a terminal inside the office.

(Mikel plugs a flash drive into a monitor)

Hardison: Even if they did get into the system, they would only have three minutes of access time before the encryption program resets itself and locks them out.

[Warehouse]

(Chaos is typing on laptop, watching three additional monitors as he hacks)

Chaos: Timer is set. Three minutes and counting.

[Office]

Parker (attaches suction cups to the wall): I still think I could get in.

(Eliot hits a reciprocating saw and approaches the wall)

Hardison: You're good, but nobody's that good.

[North’s Office]

Hardison (voice over): In and out in under three minutes is bad enough.

(Apollo is hanging from the ceiling spraying hairspray around painting)

Hardison: But North's office has a pressure-sensitive floor and thermal detectors that operate under an entirely different system.

[Office]

(Eliot hands the saw to Hardison)

Parker: I guess cheating has its advantages.

(Eliot grabs suction cups)

Hardison: It's easier to hack a wall than a high-Tech security system.

(Eliot lifts the section of wall out and turns around)

Eliot: And now the Klimt is ours.

(painting revealed is that of dogs playing poker. Hardison and Parker look surprised)

[Montgraft & Associates]

Sophie: Did he ever express an interest in the color of your toenail polish?

Receptionist: What? No.

Sophie: Did he have wood chipper?

Nate: Did he ever ask you to come to his home to see his wood chipper?

Receptionist: No.

Hardison: We got a problem.

[Hallway]

Nate: What?

Parker: At least we got a painting. Maybe they won't notice the difference.

Sophie: "Dogs Playing Poker"? Seriously?

(behind Sophie, Starke steps into an elevator. He catches a glimpse of her before the doors close)

Starke: Sophie?

[McRory’s Pub]

Parker: Maybe he saw the magazine photo and spooked.

Hardison: The man bought holocaust art on the black market and hung it for display in his office. You think he care if anybody knows he's got it?

Eliot (sitting down): Guys, just admit it, all right? We got beat. Somebody beat us to the punch.

Nate: So I just got off the phone with our clients. Told them we couldn't recover their dead father's painting. Anyone want to explain why? Where's Sophie?

Eliot: I'm on it. (calling Sophie)

Parker: Nazis! Maybe they want the stuff back that they stole. You know? Secret Nazis.

Eliot: It's going to voicemail. I'm gonna try comms. (hits comm in ear) Sophie? So-- Hey. Nate wants to know why you -- I'd say that's a pretty good reason.

[Sophie’s Apartment]

(Sophie standing in the middle of her kitchen holding a vase of flowers as the others come in)

Nate: How you doing?

Sophie: Oh, you know.

(close up on vase shows circuitry inside)

Eliot: Yep, that's a bomb.

Hardison: I recognize that circuit. It's motion triggered.

Eliot: Any sudden movement's gonna cause displacement of the water. It'll set it off.

Parker: Is that C-4?

Sophie: Oh!

(Nate grabs Parker’s hand before she can touch the vase)

Sophie: Parker... please don't poke at the motion-sensitive bomb.

Nate: So, uh... secret admirer?

Sophie: Well, it's no secret they want me dead.

Hardison: What do you think, man?

Eliot: I'd have to reach into the vase to disarm it. It'd go off.

Hardison: Well, let's not do that, then.

Parker: Do you have any instant pudding?

(everyone looks at Parker in surprise. Cut to Parker pouring pudding into the vase)

Parker: The powder hardens the liquid, tricks the bomb into thinking it's not moving.

Eliot: Should give you a little wiggle room. Very little.

Nate: All right. What's the plan, Eliot?

Eliot: How fast can you run?

(Sophie looks at Eliot in alarm)

Sophie: All right. Everybody get out of here right now.

Nate: I'm gonna stay. I'm gonna stay with Sophie, all right?

Hardison: We're not leaving you, Sophie.

Sophie: Look, I appreciate what you guys are trying to do, but just -- if you don't get out of here now, then -- then I’m gonna kill you myself when this is over. So just... just get out!

(Parker and Hardison walk toward the door)

Eliot: All right. Don't throw it up in the air. The device will hit the bottom and it'll go off. Just let go and drop it.

Sophie: Okay.

(Eliot looks at her for a long moment and walks away)

Sophie: You too. Go on.

Nate: No, I’m staying. I'm staying right here.

Sophie: Listen, it's gonna be fine, Nate. You know me.

Nate: Sophie.

Sophie: Please.

Nate: Do it exactly the way he said.

(Nate walks away. Sophie takes a breath and lifts the vase high before dropping it and running for the door. An explosion blows out her entire floor of the building)

[Cemetery]

(mourners are gathered around a casket with a line of black cars parked nearby. An open casket shows Sophie lying inside. Eliot is standing at a podium)

Eliot: She had a way of taking care of people, you know? She was a sister... she was best friend, all rolled into one. I'm gonna miss you, Soph-- So-O-O-O-O much, Katherine.

(Eliot leaves the podium. Hardison stands to let Parker walk by and she approaches the podium. Nate stands at the back of the crowd, Eliot joins him)

Parker: Katherine and I have known each other forever. Almost two years. Yeah, I know that probably doesn't sound like a lot to you, but it is to me. I never really had many friends. Which is why losing her is so hard. (sighs) It's so creepy. I mean, she's really dead. I was just talking to her and now she's just laying there. She was just laying there.

(Nate coughs and Hardison gets up to go to Parker)

Parker: Can you hear me?

Hardison: Parker. I'm -- I'm sorry. I'm sorry, y'all. What – What she really means is just, um, Katherine was like family. And sometimes, friends are all the family that you have. So... you -- you good? Come on. Just – let -- just keep going. You got all hysterical and emotional.

Eliot: See any suspects?

Nate: No one jumps out at me.

Eliot: Me neither. What makes you so sure they're gonna show up?

Nate: Listen, when you go through the trouble of killing someone the likes of a Sophie Devereaux, you make sure they're dead.

(Nate goes to the casket and after a long look at Sophie, closes it. Scene cuts to the casket being lowered into the ground in front of a headstone that reads Katherine Clive. Nate goes to stand by Hardison and Parker. He nods to them and they walk off. Sophie comes up behind Nate wearing a hat and veil.)

Sophie: Not much of a turnout, is it?

Nate: Jesus. You're dead. You're not supposed to care.

[Flashback]

(Nate closes the casket. Pall bearers take the casket and carry the casket off. Sophie peeks up from the skirting under the casket.)

[Cemetery]

Sophie: I mean, is this it? Huh? Buried in a stranger's grave, hardly any mourners.

Nate: It's not you.

Sophie: It is me. Well, at least, it's the me that anybody knows.

Nate: Yeah, listen, okay, you got to get out of here. You're gonna blow the con.

Sophie: No. It's fine. No one's gonna recognize me.

Nate: How's that?

Sophie: Nate, I’m acting.

Preacher: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Starke (walking up to Nate): It's a shame, really. So beautiful, so... young. You know her well?

Nate: Yeah, we were friends a long time.

(Sophie stands not far behind Starke, looking surprised)

Starke: I'm sorry for your loss.

Nate: Yours, too. How do you -- How did you know Katherine?

Starke: Katherine? (scoffs) When we knew each other, she, um... she went by a different name. Actresses. I suppose we should take something to heart from this. Mistakes can get you killed.

Nate: It was an accident. Gas line broke.

Starke: Mmm. That is the story. Right.

(Starke moves over to the grave and looks down. After a long moment he kisses his hand and touches the railing before walking away. Sophie rejoins Nate)

Preacher: And now let us be comforted by the words of...

Nate: Let’s get out of here. (grabs her arm and pulls her away) Friend of yours?

Well, if by that you mean murderous, treacherous backstabber, then yes.

Nate: Yeah, I thought so. Seemed like your type.

(they get into a car and drive away)

[Nate’s Apartment]

(Eliot walks into the kitchen where Hardison is reviewing security cam footage on his laptop)

Eliot: What are you doing?

Hardison: Security camera footage from Sophie’s apartment. Trying to see who delivered the bomb, but with nothing for reference, facial recognition can't narrow it down.

Sophie: No need. I know exactly who's to blame.

(the rest of the team joins Sophie in the briefing area. Sophie hits the remote to bring information up on the monitors)

Sophie: Marcus Starke. Brilliant grifter, even better forger.

(Parker looks closely at Sophie)

Sophie: Stop it.

Parker: It's like you're haunting us.

Sophie: Parker, I’m not really dead. (Parker pokes her) I'm not dead!

Parker: Okay.

Sophie: We used to work together. We did the Copenhagen job in '97, the Berlin Polytech job in '98, and, Nate, remember – Remember that great run in Moscow?

Nate: "That great run"? I chased you for three months.

Sophie: Well, uh, technically, y-you chased us. Sorry.

Hardison: Are you saying that you saw other teams before us?

Parker: Really just another Nate before Nate.

Eliot: Let me ask you a question -- what bugs you more, is it the fact that he was with Sophie first or that he outsmarted you?

Nate: Moving on.

Sophie: Starke doesn't keep a permanent crew. He specializes in whiz mobs.

[Warehouse]

Sophie (voice over): He puts a team together, they slam into town for one high-Profile job, and then they scatter.

(Starke lays out a blue print on a crate for his team)

Starke:...meet in white...

[Briefing Area]

Sophie: Usually they do one sm-- They do one smaller job first just to work out the kinks in the team.

Nate: Like our clients' painting, for example.

Sophie: Wrong place, wrong time. Starke must have seen me, and now that I’m one of the good guys, decided to get rid of me, because...why? Because... Because I know his scams. Because... I know his favorite scam.

[Warehouse]

(Stark’s team is sitting on crates looking at monitors as he goes over the job)

Starke: Cafe and a moonlit terrace.

Sophie (voice over): The Mona Lisa variant.

[Briefing Area]

Parker: That was the first one I learned. In 1911 the Mona Lisa was stolen and the con man who did it made six identical copies.

Nate: And then they put them on the black market, and each buyer thought that they had the original.

Hardison: So dude sold the same painting six times.

Nate: Yep.

Sophie: Hardison, (tosses his remote) pull up all the auctions in Boston in the next two days. Starke never stays in a city more than two days.

(Hardison starts typing on his keyboard)

Eliot: Wait a minute. Not -- Not museums?

Nate: No, no. Starke likes to use auctions to figure out who wants the painting. He picks who he's gonna sell the fakes to.

Sophie: That bit was actually my part of the scam. I made that up. It's good, isn't it?

Eliot: That's still a lot of paintings.

Nate: Yeah, it's high-Profile. A scam like this requires a lot of publicity, paintings $10 million or more.

(Hardison begins pulling auctions up on the monitors)

Sophie: He does all his own forgeries -- Postimpressionists, late 1800s. There. That's it. Van Gogh. He has a soft spot for Van Gogh.

[Warehouse]

(pulls tarp off paintings and turns them around, revealing the Van Gogh painting)

Starke: Let's just make it five. And that is the Mona Lisa scam.

[Briefing Room]

Hardison: So we just -- We call the cops. We have them show up.

Sophie: No. Starke goes down for this, there's no guarantee we can get that painting back for the Mercers. He even smells the police, and he's gonna run, and we'll get nowhere near it.

Nate: He did try to kill you, Sophie.

Sophie: We risk our lives all the time. I... No. We need to barter. We need something to trade for the Mercers' painting.

Hardison: Such as?

Sophie: That. That's what he's come for. That's what he wants.

Nate: We just got to get there first.

[Auction House]

(on the gallery floor of the auction house, many people are mingling, looking at various pieces of art)

Nate: Okay, Parker. Talk to me.

Parker: Present.

Nate: How we doing? What's going on security-wise at this place?

Parker: Well, (comes around corner in waitress uniform) the usual countermeasures. Nothing we can't handle.

Eliot: Actually, I’m more of a jack man myself, but when in Rome... (takes drink from glass and puts it back on another waitress’ tray) thank you, sweetheart. Uh-Huh. I wish Sophie was here. She's the one who likes to play all this dress-up stuff. (goes to stand next to Parker)

Parker: I miss her.

(Eliot takes a glass from Parker’s tray)

[Interior Van]

(Hardison is drinking orange soda and working on a computer as Sophie watches)

Sophie: I'm not dead. I'm right here, Parker. So, this is, um, it's what you do, right? You take footage of us on cons and you -- you -- you -- download it into that?

Hardison: Yeah, I analyze it, I monitor comms, I scan for a police frequencies, I -- You had no idea I do all this, did you? Well – d-does nobody respect the van? The van is important. What -- What is that?

Sophie: It's lemon-Zest tea. I got to tell you, it's -- It's a little bit -- It's a little bit whiffy in here.

Hardison: It smells like hard work. That's what it smells like. D-- Whiffy.

[Auction House]

Nate: Okay, guys, I’ve got the auction-house manager in sight. Now, if you take his wallet and badge, it should be a cakewalk.

Hardison: Eliot, check out the back corridor. I think I see an access point.

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Sophie: That was some nice things you said at my funeral.

Hardison: Wait. We -- We trust Nate to make sure the plan works. We trust you to make sure we’re all okay.

(static on comm makes Hardison hesitate)

Chaos: It's a blind spot in the cameras if you can find it.

Hardison: Hello?

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

(Chaos is drinking red soda and typing on a laptop)

Chaos: Hello? Who is this?

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

(Hardison types quickly, trying to track and block Chaos)

[Auction House]

Owner: Oh, I probably shouldn't, but I will.

(Auction Owner takes a glass from Parker’s tray as she takes his I.D and places it on her tray)

Parker: Got the badge. Just need to get the wallet.

(as she walks away, Apollo flips the tray and takes it from her. She looks after him, irritated, growling)

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Chaos: I said, "who is this?"

Hardison: Hey. Uh... you are bumping into my baby-Monitor frequency, so what I’m gonna need you to do, (sends a virus to Chaos’ computers) 'cause little Shiloh needs to take a nap, is turn yours off, 'kay? Thanks.

Chaos: Your baby is incredibly intelligent.

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

(Chaos working on his laptop to counter Hardison’s attack)

Chaos: He just attempted to launch a multiple-Variant computer worm at my baby monitor's firewall. Guys, we have a visiting team.

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

(cartoon images begin flashing on Hardison’s screen)

Hardison: Switching to backup comm frequencies. Eliot, they're here. They're here.

[Hallway]

Eliot: What are you talking about? Who's here?

Mikel (in Hebrew): I didn’t understand, what?

(Eliot and Mikel see each other at the same time. Eliot takes off his glasses as they size each other up. Both prepare to fight)

[Auction House]

Man: Excuse me. Waiter?

Apollo: Yes, sir.

(Parker sees Apollo across the room and Eliot on raised hall behind him)

Nate: Hardison, what do you mean? Who's -- Who's --

Starke: Nathan Ford. I-I cannot believe I didn't recognize you at the funeral. Of course, I was blinded by grief.

Nate: Guilty conscience?

Starke: Call them off.

Nate: Not gonna happen.

[Hallway]

Eliot: You best clear out.

(they walk toward each other, but Mikel doesn’t say anything)

Eliot: You don’t speak English?

Mikel (in Hebrew): You speak Hebrew?

(Eliot nods. Mikel places her feet and raises her fist.)

[Movie Flash]

(Mikel hits Eliot in ribs twice, then in the face)

[Hallway]

(Eliot looks worried, changes his stance)

[Movie Flash]

(Eliot kicks Mikel in the face and punches her, knocking her head back)

[Hallway]

(Mikel looks worried, Eliot looks smug)

[Auction House]

(Apollo walks behind the Auction Owner, picking his wallet. Parker bumps into Apollo as she walks by. Apollo stops and turns to see her holding up the wallet. Apollo then holds up her phone)

Parker: My phone. He got my phone!

(They turn to face each other)

Starke: Word is on the street that you run the nastiest crew this side of the Atlantic.

Nate: Well… what?

Starke: Come on. Everybody knows. You robbed a bank and you -- you framed a judge. You rigged a jury to steal a million-Dollar settlement. I hear that you even conned the Irish mob out of a couple of million dollars just this year. Now, that's style.

Nate: That's one way of looking at it.

Sophie: Listen, Nate, if you tell him the truth about us, we're blown.

[Interior Van]

Sophie: You cannot tell him about our clients or about us helping people -- He's gonna use that against us.

(Hardison busy typing on keyboard)

[Auction House]

Nate: If you know about us, then you would know to get out of my city.

Starke: It's still your city, Nate. I'm -- I'm just gonna take her out for one night of cheap fun. I'll get her back to you in the morning.

[Interior Van]

Hardison: I know this style. This is Chaos.

(computer screen flashes signal found. Hardison grabs his keyboard and heads for the back door of the van)

[Parking Lot]

(Hardison exits his van and a little ways down the parking lot, Chaos exits his van with a laptop in his hands. They square off like an old west gun fight)

Hardison: Chaos. I heard you were in jail. Guess I was wrong.

Chaos: Hardison. I heard you sucked. Guess I was right.

(they eye each other across the lot, their fingers twitching. Abruptly they raise their keyboard and laptop and begin typing while car alarms start going off)

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Sophie: Hardison!

(she tries hitting random keys, then shuts the laptop)

[Hallway]

(Eliot and Mikel walk closer to each other. Mikel looks at a display with two Japanese style swords)

[Movie Flash]

(Eliot and Mikel fight with swords for a moment before she stabs him in the stomach)

[Auction House]

(Parker and Apollo put their towels over their shoulders and prepare to face off. Between them, the Owner starts looking through his pockets)

Owner: I seem to have lost my wallet.

(Parker and Apollo take off)

Owner: Where's my I.D. Card? Folks, uh, we're gonna close a little early today. We appreciate you attending the gallery, and if you could please head toward the exits at this time, I'd appreciate it.

(Nate and Starke watch security personnel start to move, and guests heading for the exits)

Owner: Thank you very much. (to security) I want the security detail tripled tonight. Call the police. I want a patrol car drive-by every 10 minutes. Are these motion sensors ready?

Security: We haven't tested them.

Owner: Turn them on. I want everything in lockdown.

Starke: Your people blew it.

Nate: Uh, my people never make mistakes.

Starke: What about Sophie?

Nate: Is that a warning?

Starke: Take it how you want.

(they separate)

[Hallway]

(Eliot and Mikel square off again)

[Movie Flash]

(Eliot blocks Mikel’s sword thrust in the Auction House littered with dead bodies)

[Hallway]

(Eliot starts to move forward, but Nate grabs his arm. Mikel also starts to move forward, but Starke grabs her arm)

Nate: Let's go.

[Briefing Room]

Nate: Okay, now, we know Starke. This guy goes by the name Apollo. I've chased him a couple of times -- infiltration, physical security.

Parker: People in that line of high-risk work tend to be very unstable. We could use that. Write that down.

(the rest of the team exchange glances)

Hardison: Now, this person here's ex-Mossad, sealed records. Mikel Dayan used to work both sides as a mercenary.

Eliot: Mikel Dayan. I know that name.

Hardison: You were scared to fight a girl.

Eliot: She'd mop the floor with you, Hardison.

Hardison: I don't care.

Eliot: Seriously. She actually killed a guy once with a mop. It's a funny story, actually. She broke the mop and took --

Hardison: Eliot. Eliot. (turns back to monitors) Now, this here's Colin Mason, otherwise known by his hacker handle as "Chaos." As... whatever. Hacked the pentagon, the NSA. The CIA computer guys call him the Kobayashi Maru.

Eliot: What the hell is that?

Hardison: None of y'all got that? Seriously?

Parker: Star Trek.

Hardison: Thank you.

(Nate is looking at paperwork and at the monitors, pacing)

Eliot: How's this gonna play out?

Sophie: He's been challenged, okay? His -- His pride's hurt. His -- His ego's at stake. He's -- He's gonna -- He's gonna come up with a bigger, riskier plan.

Eliot: Are you talking about Nate?

Eliot: Nate, yeah.

Nate: There's no way this crew is gonna get to that painting before we do -- No way.

Sophie: We're not giving up on our only hope of helping the Mercers. They've waited their entire lives for justice, and we're not gonna fail them now.

Nate: Yeah, yeah. That. Sure. Yeah. But, I mean, who does this...

[Warehouse]

Starke: …guy think he is?

Apollo: Nathan Ford, that's who.

Mikel (in Hebrew): … Eliot Spencer …

Chaos: Hey, what did he say about Sophie Devereaux? Did you kill her?

Starke: Don't listen to that. Come on. We fooled them the first time. We didn't even know they were there. This time, we know their names, we know their

[Briefing Room]

Nate: M.O., we know their strengths, weaknesses.

Hardison: No, no, no. I have noticed a distinct lack of weaknesses.

Nate: We know their target, and even better, we know their timeline. That painting's going up for auction tomorrow, and it gets sold, it walks out that door. That means they have to hit it...

[Warehouse]

Starke: …tonight. Now, we've been working on this for weeks.

[Briefing Room]

Nate: We got to go in hot, in and out before they even –

Eliot: Tripled security since today --

Parker: We barely had time to check out the cameras, the motion sensors.

Nate: Whatever happens, one way or another, we are walking out of that auction house tonight with that painting, no matter what.

[Warehouse]

Starke: We are gonna get that painting. No matter what. Got it?

Apollo: Got it.

Mikel (in Hebrew): Got it.

Chaos: Got it.

Starke: Good.

[Briefing Room]

Nate: You got it?

Eliot: Yeah.

Nate (putting on jacket): Now... let's go steal...

[Warehouse]

Starke (putting on jacket): …ourselves a masterpiece.

[Exterior Auction House]

(Nate walking up to stand in front of steps)

[Auction House Lobby]

Security: Okay. Cameras, all check. Motion sensors active. We'll fire up the lasers after patrol. Head out.

(several security guards walk away)

Announcer (on TV): …and that's a steal by...

Security: Game on.

(guards turn to watch TV as behind them the security screen flashes)

[Interior Van]

Hardison: The security cameras are spoofed. They don't see anything until we want them to.

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: Motion sensors?

Hardison: I'm still working on those.

Nate: Yeah, well, work faster. Sophie, are you in position?

[Interior Car]

Sophie: I don't think I’ve driven in the front of one of these before.

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: Emily! Emily! (approaches doors and hits them with his umbrella) Emily! Let me in!

Security (approaching): Sir.

Nate: Let me in!

Security: What are you doing?

Nate: I'm here to see Emily.

Security: There's no Emily here.

Nate: What? Wait, sh-- She moved?

(behind guards, Eliot and Parker move around the corner of the building

Nate: Emily... can—I – I don’t…

[Basement]

(Parker and Eliot run through some steam tunnels, carrying bags. They enter into basement, and Eliot opens a large piece of machinery for Parker, who enters)

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: I tried to say to her I’m sorry, you know, and I don't –

Security: Because, as men, we're taught to hide our emotions. You share or you pay the price.

Nate: Yeah.

[Ductwork]

(Parker crawling through ductwork)

Hardison: Next left, two intersections.

[Interior Van]

Hardison: Okay, the gallery room should be directly below -- Uh -- Uh-Oh. Wait. F-Freeze. Freeze.

[Ductwork]

Parker (freezes): "Uh-Oh?" That's not what I want to hear.

[Interior Van]

Hardison: One of the motion sensors triggered.

[Hallway]

Guard: Motion sensors triggered. Call the secur—

(bird flies by)

Guard: Oh, man! A bird got in here. Turn off all the motion sensors until we can get this damn thing.

[Ductwork]

Parker: A bird? How did a bird –

(Apollo comes in from another duct, holding a cage)

Parker: Uh-Oh.

[Basement]

Eliot: What's with all the "uh-Ohs"?

(Mikel walks up and, seeing him, takes off her jacket)

Mikel: You wouldn't hit a girl, would you?

(Eliot walks forward, taking off his jacket and hanging it on some pipe)

Eliot (in Hebrew): Not unless she hits me first.

(they approach each other and begin to fight, blocking each other until Mikel hits Eliot in the chest, knocking him back. He touches where her blow hit.)

Eliot (in Hebrew): That counts.

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

Chaos: I have the cameras now, Hardison.

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Hardison (hits keys): Now I have the cameras and the motion sensors.

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

Chaos: No, I have the cameras and the motion sensors. Look! I also have the lasers.

[Lobby]

(security screens flicker, but return to normal before security turns to look at them)

Announcer (on TV): On the right side for a 3-Pointer. No good. It's off the back of the rim. And Watson ends up with it on the long rebound.

[Exterior Auction House]

Guard: Those motion sensors going off, that was weird. (to Nate) Go home. Sleep it off, bro. (to other guard) We should go hit the main gallery.

Nate: No, wait -- W-W-- J-Just maybe wait.

Starke: What is going on, guys?

Guard: Motion sensors went off, sir.

Starke: I already checked that out. Everything's secure. And who's this?

Guard: Uh... he just got lost. No problem.

Starke: Sir, you okay?

Nate: Yeah, I’m fine.

Starke: I'm Nathan Ford. I'm with the insurance company.

(Nate gives Starke an irritated look)

Starke: Can I help you? Why don't we just walk over here, sir? (leads Nate away) Come on. (to guard) I got this.

[Ductwork]

Parker: What kind of bird did you use?

Apollo: North American Kestrel. It's small-Bodied, but its wingspan is expansive enough that it sets off the motion detectors.

Parker: I would've gone with the Scarlet Tanager. Similar wingspan, but the brighter colors are more distracting.

Apollo: Yeah. That was my second choice.

(Apollo scrambles forward in the ductwork. Parker also scrambles forward, headed another way)

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Hardison: That's the wrong way. You're going to come out on the wrong side of the room!

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

Chaos: Go! Your exit is directly above that painting!

[Basement]

(Eliot and Mikel continue to exchange blows. He grabs hold of her and rips her shirt as she spins away and hits a pipe, releasing steam into the area)

[Exterior Auction House]

(Nate and Starke walk away from the building)

Starke: So I told them, I’m with the insurance company, you know, to help smooth things over. They were just super helpful.

Nate: All right.

Starke: Blueprints, security codes. Great guys.

[Auction House]

(Apollo lowers himself toward a painting. Across the room, Parker exits from a vent before running across the room)

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

Chaos: And now the lasers. Goodnight, Hardison.

(screen shows lasers activating)

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Hardison: P-P-Parker, the lasers are on! Freeze! (power goes out in van)

[Auction House]

(Parker gasps as lasers turn on and she freezes)

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

Hardison: Nate, he locked me out. He has total control of security.

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: Parker?

[Auction House]

Parker: Can't move.

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: Eliot?

[Basement]

(Mikel takes off her shirt and comes at Eliot again, hitting him back. He hits his head on a pipe, splitting open his forehead and spilling more steam into the area)

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: Eliot?!

(cop car pulls up, sirens blaring and lights flashing. Nate and Starke turn away)

Starke: You all out of tricks, Nate? You all out of tricks, Nate?

Sophie (from behind them): Oh, I think he has one more.

Starke: Sophie?

Sophie: Oooh…

Starke: You're not...

Sophie: Dead, yes.

Starke: You went through all this just to set me up?

Sophie: Mnh-Mnh. No. We went through all of this to save you.

[Auction House]

(Parker takes a breath and begins doing tumbles to get through the lasers

Apollo: No, no.

(Parker gets through the lasers without tripping them. She releases Apollo’s rope and starts changing her clothes, putting a foot on Apollo’s back to keep him down)

Parker: Stay down.

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: Now, Hardison.

[Interior Hardison’s Van]

(Hardison turns a crank on a generator, restoring power)

Hardison: Can't hack a classic.

(he hits several keys on his computers, grinning as he takes back control. He picks up a bag and exits the van)

[Auction House]

Apollo: A gun?

(Parker stands over him with a police uniform on)

Parker: Don't move!

(she pushes him down and cocks her gun)

Apollo: What are you doing?

Parker: I got him! He's in here!

(lights go on and security runs in)

Parker (to Apollo): Get down.

(the guards are unclear as to who to point their weapons at)

Parker: Not me. Him.

[Lobby]

Security: When the hell did the cops get here?

(monitor shows police car parked outside)

Security: The police are outside!

[Basement]

(Eliot takes off his shirt and throws it aside before they begin fighting again)

Eliot: Come on!

(Eliot catches Mikel in a hold she can’t get out of. They kiss and he puts cuffs on her wrist. She seems pleased)

[Lobby}

Guard: Guys, guys. This woman claims she's a cop.

(Parker, carrying the Van Gogh, leads a cuffed Apollo through the room)

Security: Uh, yeah. They're parked outside.

Hardison (entering wearing police uniform): There you are. Back-Up is checking the roof.

Parker: All right, good. I'm gonna have this dusted for prints.

Hardison: Okay.

(Parker leads Apollo outside. Eliot, wearing police hat, enters leading Mikel)

Eliot: Caught another one down in the air vents with this rope and climbing gear. (tosses bag to Hardison) Come on. (leads her outside)

Hardison: Quick thinking, what you did, setting off all the alarms like that. You're gonna be heroes.

Guard: Yeah, well, that's what they pay us for.

Hardison: They should pay you more. You are my hero. Guys, you are the salt of the earth, seriously. You are the red in the Red Cross and in the red, white, and blue. I got to go.

Guard: All right. Back to your posts. Come on. Let's go.

[Exterior Auction House]

(team leads the other team out of the auction house)

Starke: This is saving me how?

Sophie: Well, at first, I thought it was you that sent me that bomb to keep me from ruining this gig for you, but then you said something to Nate.

[Flashback]

Starke: Word on the street is that you run the nastiest crew this side of the Atlantic.

[Exterior Auction House]

Nate: No reason to put a bomb in Sophie’s apartment if you thought she was still a thief.

Starke: Well, of course she's still a thief. She's Sophie Devereaux. You know, I wanted to recruit you for this gig.

Sophie: Ah… Did you tell anyone else that you wanted to invite me to the party?

Starke: Yeah, my -- My... my crew.

Hardison: And, you know, once Hardison got decent pictures of all of them, well, you know, the rest was, uh, was easy.

[Flashback]

(Hardison matching video from Sophie’s apartment to a shot of Chaos)

Hardison: It's a match, baby.

Nate: Yeah.

[Interior Chaos’ Van]

Chaos (slams fist down): I knew that she was trouble from the second you said her name!

(screen shows match)

[Exterior Auction House]

(Starke’s phone beeps. He pulls it and looks at the video Hardison sent him of the match)

Starke: Now, why would you want to kill Sophie?

[Interior Van]

Chaos: Come on, Starke. (gathering equipment) I had set up the perfect double-cross, and then you want to go and bring in a new player at the last minute? "Oh, and by the way, guys, that new player is gonna be Sophie Devereaux." There's no way I’m gonna try to out-con Sophie Devereaux! And I hate to break it to you, Starke, but she was the one that everybody was always scared of. It was never you.

[Exterior Auction House]

Sophie: I've got a feeling there's a bomb very similar to the one they sent me waiting for you your getaway car.

Starke: Sophie, come on. I'm not an amateur. I'm not gonna let a keyboard monkey like that con me.

Sophie: Where is your car?

(Starke nods toward his car, parked down the road)

Sophie: And if we hadn't come along, when, exactly, do you think you'd be getting in it?

Starke: Well, right about...

(Starke’s car explodes violently)

Starke: Why, that little son of a bitch!

Sophie: I don't think he's your problem now. I am.

Starke: Well, what do you want?

Sophie: A deal.

Nate: Yes. Your people in trade for the first painting you stole, the Gustav Klimt.

Starke: Do I look like Moses? They're not my people.

Nate: Your reputation will be ruined.

Sophie: Starke gets his whole team busted. So much for the mastermind. No one's ever gonna work with you again.

Nate: And, of course, to top it all off, we do have the, uh, Van Gogh that you came for.

Starke: Oh, well...I mean... I’ll trade you for that. You really do run the nastiest crew this side of the Atlantic. (walks away)

Sophie: We'll be in touch.

Starke: Yes, you will.

(Sophie and Nate approach his car)

Sophie: So, who's Emily, then?

Nate: Eighth grade. I was crazy about her.

Sophie: Little temptress, huh?

Nate: Oh, you could say that, I guess.

(they get in and drive away)

[McRory’s Bar]

(Parker and Apollo sit at a table with locks)

Parker: Go.

(they begin picking locks to see who is fastest. Across the room, Eliot and Mikel sit at a table)

Mikel: I can top that. (pulls her shirt aside to show a scar on her shoulder) Frag grenade, Somalia.

Eliot (pulls up his sleeve to show scar on his arm): Myanmar. Sniper.

Mikel: I was a sniper in Myanmar for a while.

Eliot: When?

Mikel: 2003.

(Eliot looks surprised. Mikel holds up the handcuffs and Eliot quickly pulls her hand down)

Eliot: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. We can't have that.

Hardison (walking by): Handcuffs. Y'all nasty.

Starke: So, when I heard this painting belonged to somebody else, I was so, uh...

Nate: dismayed?

Starke: So...

Sophie: uh... more, um, shocked. Shocked, maybe?

Starke: Shocked. Uh, my associates and I just decided we had to return it. (gives the Mercer’s a case)

Ms. Mercer: Oh, god bless you!

Starke: That's okay.

Ms. Mercer: Thank you. Thank you. God bless you.

Starke: Enough of the hugging.

Mr. Mercer: After 70 years, to see justice done… you are a fine man. (they take the painting and leave)

Starke: So...where's mine?

(Nate hands him a case)

Starke: You know, the Sophie Devereaux I knew, she'd never waste her time like this. What happened to her?

Sophie: Well, she died, remember? Come on. It wasn't so bad being the good guy.

Starke: Oh, please. You ran a couple of cons, you committed about 12 felonies trying to blackmail me, and you handed over a stolen masterpiece just to get what you wanted. You're still thieves. And in the end, I still win. (leaves)

Sophie: You did give him one of the fakes, didn't you?

Nate: Yes, of course.

[Flashback]

(Apollo holds up Parker’s phone)

Parker: He got my phone!

(Parker’s phone is sitting on a crate when Eliot peeks around a corner in the warehouse)

Eliot: Go, go! Go!

(Eliot, Parker and Hardison take the fake paintings and leave)

[McRory’s Bar]

(team gathers as Starke leaves)

Hardison: Thanks for letting us use the real one.

Parker: Yeah. I hate loose ends.

[Airport]

(Chaos has been pulled aside for a hand held scan)

Chaos: Listen, I don't mean to be rude, but my flight to Paris leaves in 10 minutes.

Airport Security: No problem, sir. Routine question about your checked baggage.

Chaos: Oh, okay, great. Wait. Um, I don't have any checked baggage, so...

Airport Security (pointing at crate): That’s your name, isn't it?

(another guard opens the crate to reveal several Van Gogh paintings, one of which is labeled as the real one)

Chaos: That's -- I, um... I...

[Cemetery]

(Sophie stands looking down at her grave. The headstone for Katherine has been replaced with one for Sophie Devereaux. Nate approaches and stands next to the grave)

Sophie: Starke was right. I'm not Sophie Devereaux anymore. I haven't been for ages. I... you killed her, you and your silly crusade.

Nate: It's just a name.

Sophie: No, they're not just names, not to me. All my aliases, every one of them, I -- I know when their parents died. I know when they had their first kiss. I --

Nate: Sophie.

Sophie: You're the closest thing I’ve ever had to a real friend, and I’ve never heard you say my real name. How sad is that?

Nate: So tell me.

Sophie (steps closer to him): Let me -- Let me finish burying Sophie first. Finish burying the rest of them, until all that's left is me. Just me.

Nate (walks very close to her): And how long will that take?

(For a moment it looks as if they are going to kiss, then she pulls away. He stands by the grave as she walks off into the sunset)
